Meet Dr Lebogang Malunga

Qualifications: BDS (SMU, 2014–2018).

Dr Malunga holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University and is registered with the HPCSA. Dentistry was not an obvious first choice for her, but it grew on her over time. What kept her interest was the complexity of teeth themselves, and how much a renewed smile can do for someone's confidence. That combination, precise clinical work paired with a visible change in how a patient carries themselves, is still what draws her to the chair every day.

As the founder and principal dentist at Refresh Dental, Dr Malunga leads a small, attentive team. She works with patients aged twelve and older, covering everything from routine general dentistry to more considered cosmetic treatment, and she takes a family-oriented approach to care, treating teenagers, parents and grandparents as part of the same practice community.

Outside of the practice, Dr Malunga is usually training for something. She runs distances of five to ten kilometres, has completed several half marathons, and is currently preparing for her second Hyrox event. When she is not running, she is likely curled up with a book. She has also co-authored a mothering book titled Mothering, Mental Health and The Village, which will be launched in October 2026. Both habits, she says, teach the same lesson dentistry does: steady, consistent effort may produce results that last.
